5.6 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Taiwan

A 5.6 magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Taiwan. The China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC) confirmed the information. According to Deccan Herald, the earthquake hit at 7:38 AM on Sunday near the city of Tainan, Taiwan, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

There have been no immediate reports of casualties or damage, and no tsunami warning has been issued for the nearby areas.

This is the second earthquake to hit Taiwan within a week. Previously, on January 20, a 6.4 magnitude earthquake struck the southern part of the country. The epicenter of the quake was located 38 kilometers southeast of Chiayi County Hall, at a depth of 10 kilometers.

Taiwan's Central Weather Bureau reported that the earthquake occurred at 12:17 AM that day, followed by more than 50 aftershocks.

The National Fire Agency reported that several rooftops collapsed due to the earthquake, and many roads were blocked due to rocks and landslides. At least 27 people were injured in the quake.
