A man who repeatedly burned the Quran in Sweden in 2023, igniting outrage across Muslim countries, has been shot dead, according to media reports on Thursday. Police confirmed that a man was killed in a shooting the previous day.

Salwan Momika, an Iraqi who staged multiple Quran-burning protests, was awaiting a court ruling in Stockholm on charges of inciting ethnic hatred. The verdict, originally scheduled for Thursday, has been postponed until February 3, with the court citing the need for more time following his death.

Police reported being alerted to a shooting in Sodertalje, where Momika resided. The incident took place indoors, and officers arriving at the scene found a man with gunshot wounds. He was transported to the hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.
