Ukraine has launched a significant drone attack on the Russian capital, Moscow. This marks the second consecutive night that the Russian capital has faced Ukrainian drone strikes. Following the latest attack, all four of Moscow's airports have been temporarily shut down.
Russia has also claimed to have shot down several Ukrainian drones. This information was reported by the British media outlet BBC on Tuesday (May 6th).
According to the news agency, Moscow, the Russian capital, has been targeted by Ukrainian drone attacks for the second night in a row. Russia's air traffic control agency, Rosaviatsiya, stated that for security reasons, Moscow's four main airports – Vnukovo, Domodedovo, Sheremetyevo, and Zhukovsky – have been temporarily closed.
Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin reported that at least 19 Ukrainian drones approaching from various directions were shot down. However, debris from some of the drones fell on a major highway in the city, although no casualties were reported.
Ukraine has not yet commented on the reports of this attack in Moscow.
Meanwhile, in Russia's Kursk region, a power substation was damaged in a Ukrainian attack in the town of Rylsk. Russian officials reported that two teenagers were injured in the attack, and parts of the town experienced power outages.
The Ukrainian military claimed to have successfully attacked a Russian drone command unit near the village of Tyotkino in the Kursk region. Ukraine claims that the operation caused significant damage to Russian forces.
Russian military bloggers reported that Ukrainian forces attempted to cross the border and enter the Kursk region. They allegedly crossed minefields and attacked Russian defensive positions with armored vehicles. During this time, Russian forces reportedly blew up a bridge to try and repel the Ukrainian forces.
Following this attack, local authorities in Ukraine's Sumy region, which borders Russia, ordered the evacuation of residents from two settlements. This measure is believed to have been taken due to fears of a potential Russian counter-attack.
It is worth noting that Ukraine launched a surprise offensive in the Kursk region last August and gained control of some areas. However, Russia later claimed to have regained control of the entire region. Ukraine, though, maintains that its army is still active in the Kursk region.
