A Russian missile strike on a residential area in Kryvyi Rih, central Ukraine, has left at least 18 people dead, including nine children, according to local officials. The attack is being described as the deadliest Russian assault in Ukraine so far this year.
The strike occurred on Friday, April 4, in Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's hometown, coinciding with US President Donald Trump's ongoing efforts to broker peace in the Russia- Ukraine conflict.
Dnipropetrovsk regional governor Serhiy Lysak reported on Telegram that residential buildings were damaged, and several fires broke out as a result of the strike.
Footage circulating on Telegram shows bodies lying on sidewalks and smoke billowing above a children's playground. However, the authenticity of the videos has not yet been independently verified.
Ukraine's emergency services confirmed that at least 50 people were injured in the attack. Over 30 of them have been hospitalized, including a three-month-old baby.
Meanwhile, Russia's Ministry of Defense claimed responsibility for the strike, stating it targeted a gathering of Ukrainian troops and foreign military instructors. According to Moscow, the attack killed 85 foreign personnel and destroyed more than 20 vehicles.
