Drone Attack on Sudan Hospital Kills 67
A devastating drone attack struck a hospital in Sudan, claiming 67 lives and injuring many others. Initially, reports from Darfur’s El Fasher hospital on January 24 suggested 30 casualties, but the toll later rose to 67, according to AFP and Al Jazeera.
The hospital, one of the last functioning medical facilities in the war-torn region, came under attack amidst the ongoing civil conflict between Sudan’s military and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Darfur's regional governor, Mini Minawi, shared graphic images, stating that over 70 patients, including women and children, were killed.
Since April 2023, RSF has controlled much of western Darfur and besieged El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur. The conflict has devastated Sudan’s healthcare infrastructure, with 80% of hospitals forced to shut down, leaving El Fasher’s Saudi Hospital as the only facility capable of performing surgeries.
The civil war, which began on April 15, 2023, has resulted in thousands of deaths and displaced millions, as power struggles between the military and RSF continue to escalate.
