According to separate reports by news outlet Al Jazeera on Friday (May 23), the continued Israeli air and ground assaults in the Gaza Strip have claimed the lives of at least 85 Palestinians since early Thursday. The number of casualties is reportedly rising rapidly.

The Gaza Health Ministry also reported that 29 people, including children and the elderly, have died from starvation in recent days. Thousands remain at risk as severe food shortages continue across the region.

Hospitals received 107 bodies and 247 injured individuals in the last 24 hours alone. Many more are believed to be trapped under rubble or lying in the streets, where rescue teams are unable to reach them.

Israeli forces resumed military operations in Gaza on March 18, killing 3,613 people and wounding over 10,000 since then. The renewed assault has effectively ended the ceasefire and prisoner exchange agreement established earlier this year.

The ongoing Israeli offensive, which began in October 2023, has now claimed 53,762 lives in Gaza, according to the Health Ministry. Meanwhile, a case accusing Israel of genocide is being heard at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
