A suicide bombing struck a military base in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a northwestern province of Pakistan.
The attack occurred on Tuesday (March 4) evening in Dera Ismail Khan district, killing a total of 12 people, including the attackers. At least 32 others were injured.
Among the deceased, six were attackers, while the rest were civilians caught in the blast. The civilian casualties included four children and two women. The six attackers were identified as members of Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), a banned militant group in Pakistan, according to AFP.
Reports indicate that two explosive-laden vehicles entered the military base area during Iftar (the evening meal to break the fast). Moments later, powerful explosions occurred, causing a nearby mosque and a house’s roof to collapse.
The previous day, on Monday, another suicide bombing targeted a madrasa (Islamic seminary) in the same province, killing six people, including a senior local Taliban leader.
