This increased tariff will apply to products such as electric vehicles (EVs) and syringes. The information was reported on Wednesday (April 16th) by the news agency Anadolu.

The news agency stated that the White House confirmed on Wednesday, local time, that the US has now imposed a maximum tariff of 245% on some goods imported from China.

Earlier, on Tuesday, a fact sheet published on the White House website stated that Chinese goods imports would face a maximum tariff of 245%, significantly higher than the previously reported maximum of 145%.

According to this calculation, the total tariff rate reaches 245% when combining the 125% retaliatory tariff announced by the Trump administration, an additional 20% tariff related to fentanyl, and additional tariffs under "Section 301".

A White House official stated that a 100% "Section 301" tariff has been imposed on electric vehicles (EVs) and syringes. When combined with the additional fentanyl-related tariff and President Trump's retaliatory tariffs, the total tariff reaches approximately 245%.

Section 301 tariffs are primarily considered a defensive measure against China's so-called "unfair trade policies." Under this provision, tariffs ranging from 7.5% to 100% can be imposed on goods.

Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump stated that China should now come forward for trade negotiations, not the United States. In his words, "The ball is now in China's court. They have to make a deal with us. We don't have to give anything to China."

President Trump's spokesperson, Caroline Leavitt, read out this statement on his behalf. It further stated, "China is no different from other countries, except they are larger and want what we have."

President Trump also mentioned that a delegation from Japan would be visiting the White House on Wednesday. Discussions would include tariff policy, Japan's defense cooperation, and trade fairness.

He said, "I will personally be present at this meeting, along with the Secretaries of Treasury and Commerce. I hope for a positive outcome for both Japan and the United States."
