Tarique Rahman Drives His Mother Home
The long wait has finally ended. After seven years, Tarique Rahman embraced his mother, Khaleda Zia, creating an emotional moment at the airport. After completing all immigration formalities, BNP’s acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, personally drove his mother from London’s Heathrow Airport. It is unclear whether she was taken directly to the hospital.
A video from BNP’s media cell shows Tarique Rahman driving a black car with Khaleda Zia in the back seat. His wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, sat beside him in the front seat. Along the roadside, BNP leaders and activists were seen welcoming Khaleda Zia.
Khaleda Zia's air ambulance landed at Heathrow Airport at 2:55 PM Bangladesh time on Wednesday (January 8). Tarique Rahman, along with his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, was present to greet her.
BNP had previously announced that Khaleda Zia would be taken directly to a clinic in London for medical treatment.
Khaleda Zia last visited London on July 15, 2017. In the seven years since, she had not undertaken any foreign trips or met her son, Tarique Rahman, in person. On Tuesday at 11:47 PM, she departed from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on a special air ambulance, arriving in London the following morning after a stopover in Doha, Qatar.
