BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that if students' representatives remain in the government, even after forming a political party, the government will not be able to maintain neutrality. He further emphasized that political parties would not accept an election under such conditions.

In an interview with BBC Bangla editor Mir Sabbir, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir also mentioned that if the interim government, led by Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, fails to maintain neutrality, it will not be able to conduct elections.

The interview, conducted on Tuesday, was published by BBC Bangla on Wednesday.

Regarding the election, which is expected to be held between July and August, BNP Secretary General said, "We want early elections, as we have said before. With reasonable reforms, which are minimal, we should have national parliamentary elections as soon as possible. We have been saying this from the beginning, and we believe that based on our experience with previous caretaker governments, this is not an impossible task. It is possible if the government wants to hold elections between June and August."

When asked about what steps the party would take if the election does not happen within the expected timeline, Fakhrul replied, "In that case, we will discuss and decide. We will discuss within our party and also with those who have been and are with us in the movement. We will make a decision after the discussion."

On reforms, Fakhrul said, "The reforms that Dr. Muhammad Yunus has been involved in, even if you attempt all of them, it will take at least ten years to complete. Reform is an ongoing process. Two years ago, we presented 31 proposals for state reform, and these issues are included in that."

Regarding whether the current government will remain in power until the election, the BNP Secretary General said, "If the government maintains full neutrality, they can stay in power until they conduct the elections. Otherwise, a neutral government will be required. The issue of neutrality may arise because we observe that students are considering forming a political party. If students' representatives remain in the government, neutrality will be impossible. That is a potential concern. But if they think they can hold elections while staying in the government, political parties will not accept that."

When asked whether there is any question about the government’s neutrality, Fakhrul responded, "There is no question at this moment. We have no questions about it."
