United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres is currently on a four-day visit to Bangladesh. On the third day of his visit, he is actively participating in various engagements, including a meeting with political leaders.
The meeting began at 1:00 pm on Saturday (March 15) at Hotel Intercontinental in Dhaka and is still ongoing.
Political leaders started arriving at the venue approximately 30 minutes before the scheduled time. Among those in attendance are Interim Government Law Advisor Asif Nazrul, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed, Jamaat-e-Islami's Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher, National Citizens' Party (NCP) Convener Nahid Islam, and Amar Bangladesh Party's General Secretary Asaduzzaman Fuad.
Earlier in the day, the UN Secretary-General inaugurated the UN House in Gulshan, Dhaka.
Following the inauguration, he visited the UN office, attended a photography exhibition celebrating 50 years of Bangladesh-UN relations, and officially hoisted the United Nations flag.
The event was attended by Adilur Rahman Khan, an advisor to the Ministry of Industries and the Ministry of Housing and Public Works, along with other dignitaries.
Before this, António Guterres participated in a meeting between the United Nations Country Team (UNCT) and Bangladeshi representatives.
Notably, the UN Secretary-General arrived in Dhaka on Thursday (March 13) at 5:00 pm for his four-day visit. He was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by Foreign Affairs Advisor Md. Touhid Hossain. On Friday (March 14), he travelled to Cox's Bazar, where he joined thousands of Rohingya refugees for Iftar.
