Due to torrential rain, the third day of the Kanpur Test was abandoned. While there was no good news about getting on the field, the Bangladesh team found something to celebrate elsewhere. Before the result of the second Test against India was determined, Najmul Hossain Shanto and his team received some good news from the ICC.

Bangladesh has moved up from sixth to fifth in the Test Championship rankings.

Bangladesh can thank Sri Lanka for this progress. It's thanks to the performances of Angelo Mathews and Dhananjaya de Silva that this improvement occurred. Sri Lanka swept New Zealand 2-0 in a home Test series. As a result, Bangladesh has reaped the benefits.

In the 2023-25 cycle of the Test Championship, Bangladesh has secured fifth place with a winning percentage of 39.29%. Out of seven Tests, Bangladesh has won three, while they have tasted defeat in the remaining four. This opportunity for improvement came as New Zealand dropped in the rankings.

Yesterday, after losing to Sri Lanka by an innings and 154 runs, New Zealand dropped from fourth to seventh. Their winning percentage is now 37.60%.

Although Sri Lanka did not improve in ranking, Dhananjaya and Mathews have solidified their hold on third place. With a winning percentage of 55.56%, they are right behind the top two teams, India and Australia. India leads with a 71.67% win rate, followed by Australia at 62.50%.
