Bangladesh Grabs 6 Wickets on Day-1 After Batting Collapse
Bangladesh was bowled out for just 106 after opting to bat first against South Africa. In reply, the visitors ended the day at 140/6, gaining a 34-run lead. Despite Bangladesh's batting collapse, they managed to pick up six South African wickets by the end of the first day.
On Monday, South Africa’s innings got off to a shaky start. Aiden Markram fell for just 6 runs, followed by Tristan Stubbs, who scored 23 off 27 deliveries. Tony de Zorzi and David tried to build a partnership, but David couldn’t last long, managing only 11 off 25 balls before getting caught.
De Zorzi continued to score steadily, but in the 28th over, Taijul Islam, brought into the attack by Shanto, turned the game around by picking two wickets in one over. De Zorzi was dismissed for 30 off 72 balls, while Matthew Breetzke fell for a duck off four deliveries, disrupting South Africa’s rhythm. However, Ryan Rickelton's responsible batting ensured South Africa took the lead.
Taijul returned for another spell in the 32nd over and completed his five-wicket haul by dismissing Rickelton, who scored 27 off 49 balls.
South Africa finished the day at 140/6 in 41 overs, thanks to contributions from Kyle Verreynne (18) and Wiaan Mulder (17). Due to poor light, play was called off six overs early, and South Africa will resume from this position on the second day.
Earlier, Bangladesh struggled from the outset after choosing to bat. Opener Shadman Islam was dismissed in the second over without scoring, caught at second slip by Aiden Markram off Wiaan Mulder.
Soon after, Mominul Haque followed, managing just 4 runs off six deliveries. Najmul Hossain Shanto showed signs of settling in but fell for 7, offering a simple catch off Keshav Maharaj’s innocuous delivery.
Mushfiqur Rahim couldn’t provide much resistance either, bowled by Kagiso Rabada for 11 off 20 balls. Liton Das also faltered, scoring just 1 off 13 deliveries, leaving Bangladesh in deep trouble at 45/5.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz tried to steady the innings with Joy but could only manage 13 off 24 balls. After the lunch break, Joy’s resistance came to an end as he was bowled for 30 off 97 balls.
Debutant Zakir Ali failed to impress, scoring just 2 off 15 balls. Taijul Islam and Nayeem Hasan added some runs towards the end, helping Bangladesh cross the 100-run mark. Eventually, Nayeem (8) and Taijul (16) were dismissed, and Bangladesh was bowled out for 106.
