After overcoming rain delays, play resumed at 3 PM on the third day of the Mirpur Test. However, poor light forced the umpires to stop the match after just five overs as overcast skies dimmed visibility.

As of the latest update, Bangladesh posted 283 for 7 in 85 overs, leading by 81 runs. Mehidy Hasan Miraz remains unbeaten on 87, with Naem Hasan at the crease on 16.

The day started with Bangladesh’s hopes resting on Joy (38*) and Mushfiqur Rahim (31*), who had resumed batting from the previous day. However, South African pacer Kagiso Rabada dismissed both early in the session, dealing a blow to Bangladesh's lead aspirations.

Joy managed 40 runs off 92 balls, while Mushfiqur added 33 off 39 deliveries. Liton Das also failed to contribute, departing for just 7, leaving Bangladesh in trouble at 112 for 6.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Zakir Hasan then staged a crucial fightback, building a fifty-plus partnership—the highest seventh-wicket stand for Bangladesh against South Africa. Miraz reached his half-century off 94 balls, while Zakir brought up his maiden Test fifty from 102 balls. Their partnership of 90 runs helped Bangladesh surpass South Africa’s total of 202 and gain a lead.

Zakir eventually fell for 58 off 111 balls, trapped LBW, which disrupted Bangladesh’s momentum.

Rain interrupted play during the 80th over, forcing an early tea break at 2:10 PM—thirty minutes ahead of schedule. Although play resumed at 3 PM, poor light halted it again after just five overs.

Earlier, Bangladesh had finished the second day on 101 for 3 after 27 overs, responding to South Africa's 202-run total.
