Bangladesh Levels the Series with a Fantastic Win
After a narrow loss in the first match against Afghanistan, the Bangladesh team bounced back in the second match with an impressive all-around performance. Led by Shanto and Miraz, Bangladesh defeated Afghanistan by 68 runs, leveling the series.
On Saturday, November 9, Bangladesh set a target of 253 runs after batting first. In response, Afghanistan was bowled out for 184 with 39 balls remaining, giving Bangladesh a 68-run victory.
Afghanistan had a shaky start in their challenging chase, with opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz departing for just 2 runs. Sedikullah Atal attempted to stabilize the innings with Rahmat Shah, but captain Shanto brought on Nasum Ahmed in the 17th over, and the left-arm spinner took a breakthrough on his very first ball, dismissing Atal, who scored 39 off 51 balls. Afghanistan found themselves struggling at 70 for 2.
Rahmat Shah continued to accumulate runs alongside Hashmatullah Shahidi, reaching his half-century off 74 balls. However, just as Afghanistan seemed to be regaining momentum, Mustafizur sent Hashmatullah (17) back to the pavilion on the last ball of the 29th over. Nasum then bowled Azmatullah on the first ball of the following over, and three balls later, Rahmat Shah was run out, putting Afghanistan in deep trouble with five wickets down.
Mohammad Nabi tried to rebuild the innings with Gulbadin Naib, but the partnership didn’t last long as Gulbadin was caught out for 26 off 24 balls by Shariful. In the 37th over, Miraz bowled Nabi, bringing Bangladesh closer to victory. Afghanistan was soon bowled out for 184 with contributions of 4, 14, and 1 from Nangeyalia Kharote, Rashid Khan, and Allah Ghazanfar respectively, sealing Bangladesh’s 68-run win.
Nasum Ahmed was the highest wicket-taker for Bangladesh, claiming three wickets, while Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Mustafizur Rahman each took two wickets. Shariful Islam and Taskin Ahmed picked up one wicket each.
