Inter Miami Eliminated Despite Messi's Goal
In a heartbreaking exit, Messi’s Inter Miami lost 3-2 to Atlanta United in the first round of the Major League Soccer (MLS) playoffs at Chase Stadium early Sunday (November 10, Bangladesh time). Lionel Messi scored a goal during the match.
Inter Miami had won the first playoff match 2-1, but Atlanta United made a comeback in the second match, beating Miami 2-1. This set up a decisive third game, where the winner would advance to the next round. In this crucial match, Miami ultimately fell 3-2, resulting in their elimination.
At Chase Stadium, Inter Miami took the lead in the 17th minute with a goal from Matias Rojas. However, their joy was short-lived as Atlanta’s Senegalese striker Jamal Thiare stunned them with two goals between the 19th and 21st minutes, putting Miami down 2-1 by halftime.
In the second half, Miami’s coach made three substitutions, which soon paid off. In the 65th minute, Messi scored with a header off a brilliant cross from the right by Marcelo Weigandt, leveling the score. Yet, the joy didn’t last long. Bartosz Slisz’s goal in the 76th minute dealt a final blow to Miami.
Unable to recover, Messi and Suarez’s Inter Miami bowed out in the first round of the playoffs. Atlanta United will now face Orlando City in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
