Bangladesh Makes a Flying Start in World Cup by Defeating Nepal
The Bangladesh team participated in the U-19 Women's T20 World Cup with big dreams. In their first match, the Junior Tigresses faced Nepal. Bangladesh had a flying start to the World Cup by defeating Nepal by 5 wickets.
On Saturday (January 18), Nepal batted first and set a target of just 53 runs for Bangladesh. In response, Bangladesh secured victory with 40 balls and 5 wickets in hand.
However, Bangladesh did not have a good start while chasing this easy target. The Tigresses lost 3 wickets for just 11 runs. Subarna (4) was dismissed on the third ball of the innings, followed by Fahmida Chhoa for 1 run. Coming in at number three, Juairiya Ferdous also failed, getting out for 2 runs.
Batting at number four, Sadia Islam started building runs with Sumaiya Akter. However, she couldn't play a big innings. Sadia was out for 16 runs, and captain Sumaiya followed her shortly after, scoring 12 runs.
By then, Bangladesh was close to victory. Eventually, supported by Jannatul Mawa's 5 runs and Afia Ashima Ira's unbeaten 9 runs, Bangladesh secured the win with 40 balls and 5 wickets in hand.
Earlier, after losing the toss and batting first, Nepal collapsed under the pressure of Bangladesh's bowling attack. Opener Sabitri Dhami was dismissed for 1 run in the third over after facing 6 balls. Puja Mahato accompanied her, scoring just 2 runs off 18 balls. Then, Sony Pakhrin (0) and Kiran Kunwar (1) were also dismissed.
However, Sana Parveen tried to fight from one end but couldn't build a big inning. She was bowled out for 19 runs off 32 balls. Following her, Alisha Yadav (4), Seemana KC (10), and Anu Kadayat (0) were dismissed, leading Nepal to lose 8 wickets for 42 runs.
Towards the end, Tirsana BK was out for 3 runs, and Riya Sharma for 5 runs, resulting in Nepal being all out for 52 runs with 10 balls remaining.
For Bangladesh, Jannatul Mawa took two wickets. Additionally, Nishita Akter Nishi, Fahmida Chhoa, and Anisa Akter Soba each took one wicket. The remaining five Nepalese batters were run out.
