The Young Tigresses have reached the Super Six stage of the U-19 T20 Women’s World Cup by defeating Scotland. On Wednesday (January 22), Bangladesh secured an 18-run victory against Scotland in their final group-stage match of the ongoing World Cup in Malaysia. With this win, they advanced to the Super Six stage.

In the morning match held in Bangi, Malaysia, Scotland won the toss and opted to field first. Batting first, Bangladesh posted a total of 121 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Captain Sumaiya Akter top-scored with 29 runs off 36 balls, while Afia Ashima Ira contributed 21 runs off 19 balls.

For Scotland, Naeema Sheikh and Maisie MacSiarra each claimed two wickets.

In pursuit of the target, Scotland started well and remained in the game even after the early loss of their openers. A partnership between Pippa Sprowl and captain Niamh Muir steadied the innings. Muir was dismissed after scoring 22 runs off 32 balls, falling to Habiba Pinky with the team total at 69. Pippa Sprowl’s dismissal for 43 runs off 41 balls, bowled by Anisha Akter Soba, derailed Scotland’s chase. No other batter could contribute significantly, and the team was eventually bowled out for 103 runs, handing Bangladesh an 18-run victory.

For Bangladesh, Anisha Akter Soba was the standout bowler, taking 4 wickets. Habiba Islam Pinky and Nishita Akter Nishi claimed one wicket each.

In the Malaysia World Cup, the top three teams from each of the four groups will progress to the Super Six stage. From there, four teams will qualify for the semifinals. The semifinals are scheduled for January 31, with the final set to take place on February 2.
