Starlink, the globally renowned satellite-based internet service provider, has officially commenced its operations in Bangladesh. The matter was communicated via phone call to the Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor on Monday (May 19th), and the company confirmed the launch on its X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday morning (May 20th).
Foyez Ahmed Taiyeb, the Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor in charge of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, confirmed the development.
He stated, "Starlink has officially launched in Bangladesh. They informed me about this via a phone call yesterday (Monday) afternoon and confirmed it on their X handle this morning."
The Special Assistant to the Chief Advisor further mentioned that Starlink is initially launching with two packages: Starlink Residence and Residence Light. The monthly costs are ৳6,000 and ৳4,200 respectively.
However, there will be a one-time cost of ৳42,000 for the setup equipment. There are no speed or data limits, and individuals can use unlimited data with speeds of up to 300 Mbps.
Foyez Ahmed Taiyeb said that Bangladeshi customers can start placing orders from today. This marks the realization of the Chief Advisor's expectation to launch within 90 days.
He added that despite being expensive, this provides a sustainable alternative for premium customers to access high-quality and high-speed internet services.
Additionally, companies will have the opportunity to expand their business in areas where fiber or high-speed internet services have not yet reached. NGOs, freelancers, and entrepreneurs will have the assurance of uninterrupted high-speed internet throughout the year.
He also commented that the Chief Advisor has congratulated everyone involved in this achievement.
Notably, with its launch in Bangladesh, Starlink has entered a new market in South Asia. This opens up new horizons for high-speed internet services even in the remote areas of the country.
