Bangladesh has secured the 15th position worldwide in terms of the number of internet users relative to its population, with approximately 77.7 million internet users. This data comes from a recent report by the global research firm Statista.
Global Landscape of Internet Users
According to Statista's "Internet and Social Media Users in the World" report, published in February 2025, the organization conducted a survey of 25 countries with significant internet user bases. The countries included in the study were: India, China, the United States, Indonesia, Brazil, Russia, Pakistan, Mexico, Japan, Nigeria, the Philippines, Egypt, Vietnam, Germany, Bangladesh, Turkey, Iran, London, Thailand, France, Italy, South Africa, South Korea, and Argentina.
The report indicates that China leads the world in internet users, with approximately 1.11 billion people online. India holds the second position with 806 million internet users, followed by the United States in third place with about 322 million users.
Top Countries and Bangladesh's Position
Indonesia ranks fourth with approximately 212 million internet users, and Brazil is fifth with 183.8 million users. Russia is sixth with about 133 million users, while Pakistan comes in seventh with roughly 116 million. Mexico is eighth with 110 million internet users, and Japan is ninth with around 109 million. Nigeria rounds out the top ten with 107 million internet users.
The Philippines is 11th (97.5 million), Egypt 12th (96.3 million), Vietnam 13th (79.8 million), and Germany 14th (78.9 million).
Bangladesh is positioned 15th with approximately 77.7 million internet users.
Other Key Findings
The report also shows Turkey in 16th place (77.3 million users), Iran 17th (73.2 million users), and London 18th (67.8 million users). Thailand is 19th (65.4 million users), France 20th (63.4 million users), Italy 21st (53.3 million users), and South Africa 22nd (50.8 million users).
It's worth noting that the latest data from the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) states that the country currently has approximately 130.82 million internet subscribers and around 186.22 million mobile subscribers.
