The match centered by Shakib Al hasan was nothing but a Shakib show. Afghanistan were all out for 200 runs in the 47th over. In this way Bangladesh beat Afghanistan by 62 runs. Shakib bagged 5 wickets in his 10 over quota giving away 29 runs.

In the Afghan innings Samiullah Shinwari scored highest 49 runs and remained not out in the crease. Captain Gulbadin Naib scored second highest 47 runs.

For Bangladesh, apart from Shakib pacer Mustafizur took two wickets while Mosaddek and Saifuddin took one each.

Earlier, in Southampton Afghan captain decided to bowl first after winning the toss. Such decision of Gulbadin Naib was to take advantage from the weather.

Their strategy was fruitful as the spinners showed brilliant performances.

The opening partnership broke when the total run was 23. Liton Das went to the pavilion after scoring 16 runs in a controversial decision. Then Mohammad Nabi got Tamim out after scoring 36 runs.

In the third wicket partnership 61 runs came from Mushfique and Shakib. Shakib played an innings of 51 runs from 69 balls. In this way he fulfilled his one thousand runs in the world cup matches. Besides he retained his position as the top run scorer in this world cup.

After Shakib’s out Mushfique scored runs along with Mahmudullah and Mosaddek. Mahmudulah was out for 27 and then Mosaddek scored 35 runs.

The highest 83 runs from 87 balls came from Mushfique. Bangladesh scored 262 runs after stipulated 50 overs losing 7 wickets.

Mujib took 3 wickets and Naib bagged 2 while Daulat, Nabi and Rahmat took one wicket each.
