President, PM mourn death of Principal Motiur Rahman
President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Principal Motiur Rahman, a former member of Awami League Central Working Committee, former president of Mymensingh district Awami League, former religious affairs minister and valiant freedom fighter on Monday.
President said In a condolence message, "the nation will forever remember Motiur Rahman's contributions to the Liberation War and education sector."
Prime Minister said in a message that, Motiur Rahman was a dedicated leader of Bangladesh Awami League.
“Motiur Rahman performed his organisational duties, remaining steadfast to the ideals of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the politics of the Awami League — defying uncountable inducement and repeated imprisonment,” she said.
Earlier at 11:00pm on Sunday, Motiur Rahman breathed his last while undergoing treatment at Nexus Hospital in Mymensingh.
A valiant freedom fighter and recipient of the Ekushey Padak award for his outstanding contribution in the Liberation War.
Motiur was elected a member of parliament from Mymensingh-4 in 1986, 1996, and 2008. In 2014, he was appointed as the minister of religious affairs.
He also held the positions of president and general secretary of Mymensingh District Awami League for an extended period.
