National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Chairman Kazi Reazul Hoque sent a letter to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal for ensuring human rights status during the ongoing anti-narcotic drives.
He sent the letter to the Home Minister on Monday.
In the letter the NHRC Chairman said, exemplary punishment should be ensured for the drug traders after bringing them under legal process. State is the protector of primary fundamental rights. So the state and its concerned organization are liable to ensure and establish the rights ensured by the constitution.
In the letter he wrote that recently a number of convicted drug traders were killed and many law enforcing agency members were injured during the ongoing anti narcotic drives which have turned a matter of concern throughout the country.
The letter also emphasized on to ensure punishment for the accused under the existing law according to the constitution.
The NHRC Chairman upheld section 35 (3) of the constitution where justice is ensured for any accused under criminal charge. He also urged Home Minister to take necessary measures in this regard.
Kazi Reazul Hoque requested the Home Minister to take necessary steps on emergency basis so that the issue of human rights should be considered with due importance for the accused and the suspected people and their rights should be protected that our constitution has offered.
