Former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed's wife and three daughters have written to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to postpone the hearing of Benazir. Earlier, Benazir had applied to the ACC through a lawyer asking for 15 days time. At that time, Benazir's personal hearing was scheduled for June 6.

On Sunday (June 9), his wife and three daughters wrote to the ACC to delay the time again. This time, the ACC has set a date for Benazir's interrogation on June 23.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Court Judge Mohammad Ash-Shams Jaglul Hossain appointed a caretaker to take care of the immovable property of Benazir and his family. His Savar property will be looked after by the UNO there, the Gopalganj fish farm will be looked after by the District Fisheries Officer. Apart from this, the property of Madaripur and Cox's Bazar will be looked after by the concerned District Commissioner.

Incidentally, on March 31 and April 3, reports on Benazir's huge wealth were published in various media. Allegations of illegal acquisition of wealth were raised against the former IGP and his family members. According to the report, Benazir's family has built a resort on about 1400 bigha land called Savanna Eco Resort in Sahapur Union of Gopalganj. Apart from this, the former IGP has several flats and houses in Dhaka and Purbachal. His wife and two daughters have at least six companies in different parts of the country. Benazir's investment in five companies may be more than 500 crore tk, the report said. Later, after verifying the complaint, the ACC decided to investigate on April 18.

While searching, the ACC found 627 bigha land (20 thousand 703 cents), 33 bank accounts and investments in 25 companies in the name of Benazir Ahmed, his wife Zishan Mirza and three daughters. After that, following the application of the organization, the court ordered the seizure and blocking of these assets.

According to the court records, Benazir has a large portion of his property in three upazilas of his home district, Gopalganj. He bought 240 bighas of land in 65 deeds from 2017 to 2022 in Gopalganj Sadar. He bought 47 percent of three deeds in Tungipara and 35 bigha of land in Kotalipara. Apart from this, about 280 bigha of land was purchased in the name of his wife Zishan Mirza in 2021 and 2022 in Rajoir of Madaripur district.

Benazir Ahmed was appointed as the director general of the elite force RAB on January 7, 2015. Before that he served as Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner. After leading RAB for four and a half years, he took over as IGP on April 15, 2020.

Not only individual initiatives, several financial institutions and public, private banks are also indirectly involved in the money laundering process. Several years ago, Bangladesh signed several agreements with many countries to recover the money smuggled. A lot of garment manufacturing may move to India from Bangladesh

Raymond CMD Gautam Singhania expects a large chunk of garment manufacturing to move India in the coming years due to the political turmoil in Bangladesh and believes his company is ready to tap into the opportunity with the investment it had made to supply to global players.
