Polling is over in 19 upazilas, counting is going on
Polling of 19 Upazila Parishads, which was postponed due to Cyclone Remal, has ended. Now counting is going on.
Voting started from 8 am on Sunday (June 9). Ends at 4 pm.
According to the Election Commission (EC) The upazilas are Sarankhola, Morrelganj, and Mongla of Bagerhat; Khulna’s Koyra, Paikgasa, and Dumuria; Gournadi and Agailjhara of Barishal; Patuakhali Sadar, Mirzaganj, and Dumki; Mathbaria of Pirojpur; Tajumuddin and Lalmohan of Bhola; Rajapur and Kathalia of Jhalkathi; Bamna and Pathorghata of Barguna and Khaliajuri of Netrakona.
Polling was scheduled to be held in 19 upazilas on May 29. But due to cyclone it was postponed. Polling was held through EVMs in Mathbaria of Pirojpur and through ballots in the rest.
There are 330 candidates in these upazilas. 119 people are contesting for the post of chairman, 132 people for the post of vice chairman and 79 people for the post of female vice chairman.
It should be noted that since May 8, the Election Commission has been conducting polls in upazilas of the country step by step. Earlier, elections were held in 466 upazilas in four phases.
