Matiur and his family banned from travelling abroad by court

The court has banned the travel of former member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR), Matiur Rahman, his wife Laila Kaniz Lucky and son Ahmed Taufiqur Rahman Arnob, in connection with corruption allegations against them.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad As-Sams Jaglul Hossain gave this order on Monday (June 24).

Although the news of Matiur has already spread around the country. Searches at his various residences failed to find him. Even after opening the office after the Eid ul-Adha holiday, he did not come to the office.

Several customs officials close to Matiur said that Matiur fled to India through Akhaura land port on Sunday (June 22) afternoon. From there they can leave for Dubai. An influential syndicate assisted him in his exodus.

Not only Matiur Rahman, his second wife Shammi Akhtar Shibli, mother of Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat and Irfan are also said to have left the country.
Earlier, Matiur was removed from the post of President of NBR's Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal. He also lost the directorship of Sonali Bank.

Behind all the discussion of 'goat scandal' of Ifat, son of Matiur's second wife, a heated discussion arose about how he purchase of cows and goats for a huge amount of money. At one point, Matiur Rahman claimed that Ifat is not his son. Even this young man is not known to him. Based on the source of this incident, the information of Matiur Rahman's huge wealth came out. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has already started an investigation into his alleged acquisition of illegal assets.

In the search, houses, land, flats, plots and other immovable assets were found in the name of Matiur in various places including Dhaka, Gazipur, Savar, Narsingdi, Barishal.

It is known that Matiur has hundreds of crores of taka in his bank account. Several intelligence agencies are looking for his illegal assets. Matiur's first wife Laila Kaniz is currently Narsingdi's Raipura Upazila's Chairman. Their daughter Farzana Rahman Ispita and son Taufikur Rahman Arnob have been found to have crores of taka deposited in various banks.
