The visit of Delhi became very fruitful: PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that the bilateral visit to India at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been very fruitful.

She said this at a press conference organized at Gonobhaban on Tuesday (June 25) morning about her visit to Delhi.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said the visit was short but very fruitful. I think this visit will go a long way in strengthening the excellent relations between India and Bangladesh.

She said that Bangladesh-India relations have reached a unique height in the last 15 years, the benefits of which are being enjoyed by the people of both countries. Especially in 2023, a new dimension has been added to the relationship between the two countries.

Sheikh Hasina said that the main topic of the discussion with the Indian leadership during this visit was to formulate a plan on how two newly elected governments can take the cooperative relationship further. As Dhaka and Delhi embarked on a new path with the formation of new governments, we discussed the future course of action to establish 'Smart Bangladesh' of 'Vision 2041' and ensure 'Developed India 2047'.

Referring to India as Bangladesh's biggest and closest neighbour, trusted friend and regional partner, the Prime Minister said that five new MoUs were signed and exchanged between the two countries during the visit and three renewed MoUs were signed and exchanged. Besides, two conceptual declarations were signed and exchanged. Besides, 13 joint activities were announced.

She said that new train services will be started between Rajshahi and Kolkata. New bus service will be started between Chattogram and Kolkata. Besides, goods train services will be started between Gede-Darshana and Haldibari-Chilahati up to Dalgaon. It will further increase communication and economic activities between the two countries.

Sheikh Hasina said e-visa will be introduced for patients going to India for treatment from Bangladesh and a new Assistant High Commission of India will be established in Rangpur. This will allow dementia patients to process visas faster than before and travel in less time.

She said that discussions were held on the renewal of the Ganges river water sharing agreement and India's assistance in the Teesta river water management and water conservation projects in Bangladesh.

Apart from this, the construction of Inland Container Depot (ICD) in Sirajganj under grant support has also been discussed. The Prime Minister said that 40 MW of electricity will be imported from Nepal to Bangladesh through the Indian grid, thereby increasing regional power cooperation.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina visited the India's capital New Delhi on June 21-22 at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During this bilateral visit, she met with Indian President Draupodi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
