Teacher leaders meeting with Obaidul Quader

The teachers, officials and employees of 35 public universities of the country observed a complete strike for the third day (July 03) demanding the cancellation of the 'Prattay Scheme' of universal pension. Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader will hold a meeting with teacher leaders on Today (Thursday, July 4) to resolve the matter.

The teachers of Dhaka University held a sit-in program at the main gate of Kala Bhavan of Dhaka University on Wednesday. Speaking to the journalists at that time, Bangladesh University Teachers Association Secretary General and Dhaka University Teachers Association President Professor Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan said that Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader wanted to talk to the protesting teachers. However, as per the earlier announcement, the complete strike of the teachers will continue until the demands met.

As a result of the movement of teachers, officials and employees, the public universities of the country have practically stopped for the last three days. The teachers of Dhaka University observed a complete strike and took a stand at the main gate of Kala Bhavan from Wednesday morning. On the other hand, the 'Officer-Employee Unity Council' took a position in front of the administrative building of the university. As a result the students are not getting any kind of service anywhere in the department, hall, institute and administrative building. Many students coming back from the front of the administration building.

Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan said, Ishaque Ali Khan Panna, the former general secretary of the Chhatra League called me. He told me, 'You should talk to Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader.' I presented to him the rationale of our movement. He said, 'Come with two or three teachers in the evening. We will sit and decide what to do.'

When asked about the discussion, teacher leader said yesterday evening, 'We have not decided the time of the discussion yet.' We hope to be able to discuss tomorrow (Thursday) morning. Apart from this, we also scheduled to discuss with the Minister of Education.

Meanwhile, during the sit-in program in the morning, Professor Zeenat Huda, General Secretary of Dhaka University Teachers Association, said that, 'Our statement is clear, we have made three demands.' Certificate scheme should be abolished, inclusion of university teachers in super grade and separate pay scale for teachers should be introduced. If the demands are not accepted then we will continue the strike.'
