The situation arose after the departure of Sheikh Hasina from power due to massive protests, Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus gave his consent and agreed to take the position as head of the interim government following the proposal of coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement.

According to a reliable source. Yunus said, 'When I was contacted by the students, I did not want to agree at first. I told them, I have a lot of work, which I have to finish. But the students requested me again and again saying that we had succeeded in such a bloody movement. Many people lost their lives in this movement, and many students and common people were killed. Now Bangladesh has an opportunity to manage the country fairly. In that case, if you take responsibility, then it is possible. It's not good for any of us if you don't agree to take responsibility. That is why we request you to take responsibility.

He also said, 'When the students said this, I considered that these students have done so much agitation, they have to pay so much for it. If the students can accept so much sacrifice, if the people of the country can accept so much sacrifice, then I also have some responsibility. Then I told the students that I was willing to take the responsibility of the interim government.

Dr. Nahid Hasan said in a video message about the appointment of Muhammad Yunus as the chief adviser, 'We took 24 hours to outline the formation of the interim government. But considering the urgent situation, I am announcing the outline now. We decided to form an interim government with Muhammad Yunus as chief adviser. We have spoken with him, he has agreed to take responsibility.
