Death toll rises to 27, more than 5.6 million affected

The death toll has risen to 27 due to severe floods in 11 districts of Bangladesh. Apart from this, more than 5.6 million people have been affected.

This information was obtained from Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

Farooq-e-Azam, adviser of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, gave this information in a press conference on the ongoing flood situation at Secretariat on Tuesday (August 27).

Farooq-e-Azam said that till now there are 11 flood affected districts. The total number of affected people in 11 districts is 56 lakh 19 thousand 375. There are 12 lakh 7 thousand 429 water-logged families. 74 upazilas were flooded including 541 unions and municipalities.

He also said that so far 27 people have died in the flood. Among them, 10 people died in Cumilla, 1 in Feni, 5 in Chattogram, 1 in Khagrachari, 5 in Noakhali, 1 in Brahmanbaria, 1 in Lakshmipur and 3 in Cox's Bazar.

Earlier, the death toll as of Monday (August 26) was 23 and the number of victims were over 5.5 million.
