Adviser Md. Nahid Islam to Visit Ganabhaban Amid Calls for Its Transformation
Md. Nahid Islam, Adviser on Information, Broadcasting, Post, Telecommunication, and Information Technology, is set to visit Ganabhaban, the former official residence of ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, on Saturday, September 7, around 11 am, according to ministry officials.
This visit comes in the wake of recent statements made by Hasnat Abdullah, a coordinator of the anti-discrimination student movement, during a Facebook Live session. Abdullah called for transforming Ganabhaban into a public museum, reflecting on its historical role during Hasina's tenure.
He said, "This public building became an arena for fascism, where even personal issues like divorces or land plots attracted the Prime Minister's attention." Abdullah further proposed that the building should serve as a "July Memorial Museum" to commemorate its political significance.
On Friday, the Martyr March program reinforced this demand, presenting a five-point list of proposals, including the transformation of Ganabhaban into a museum.
