Home Affairs Adviser Lt. General (retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury urged the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to carry out their duties with the highest professionalism. He emphasized that BGB's primary responsibility is securing the border and preventing smuggling, and there is no room for retreat. "You must uphold the responsibilities assigned to you," he said.

Speaking at the BGB's border conference center in Pilkhana, Dhaka, on Saturday, September 7, the Adviser stressed that corruption will not be tolerated, and strict disciplinary action, including dismissal, will be taken against those involved in bribery or corruption. "BGB must operate in accordance with the law," he added.

Referring to past incidents like the killing of Felani Khatun, the Adviser urged an end to all border killings. "We seek peace, not violence," he stated.

BGB Director General Major General Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, along with senior officers and regional commanders, attended the meeting, which was also broadcast via video teleconference.

Felani Khatun, a 15-year-old Bangladeshi girl, was tragically shot and killed by the Indian Border Security Force (BSF) on January 7, 2011, along the Bangladesh-India border. and Swarna Das, a 16-year-old, was fatally shot by the BSF on September 3 of this month.

Fifteen-year-old Felani Khatun was returning from India to Bangladesh with her father through the Anantapur border in Kurigram 13 years ago, while Swarna Das was going with her mother through the Lalarchak border in Moulvibazar to meet her immigrant brother in Tripura, India.
