US Delegation Arrives in Dhaka for Bilateral Talks
A high-level US delegation, led by Assistant Under Secretary of the Treasury Brent Neyman, arrived in Dhaka on Saturday morning (September 14). Later in the afternoon, Donald Lu, the US Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs, is also set to arrive following his visit to Delhi. This marks the first visit of a US delegation to Dhaka since the interim government assumed power.
The delegation will engage in a series of meetings with Bangladesh's interim government and various US organizations to strengthen bilateral relations and discuss shared priorities.
Meetings are scheduled with Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, Foreign Affairs Advisor Touhid Hossain, Finance and Trade Advisor Salehuddin Ahmed, and Foreign Secretary Md. Jasim Uddin. A luncheon, hosted by Foreign Secretary Jasim Uddin, will include key ministry representatives. Uddin mentioned that a wide array of topics will be covered during the discussions, with an emphasis on multiple sectors.
A spokesperson for the US State Department stated that the talks will focus on how the US can support Bangladesh’s economic growth, financial stability, and key development priorities. The discussions will also reaffirm the US’s commitment to fostering economic stability and growth within the broader Indo-Pacific region.
The US delegation will include representatives from the Treasury Department, USAID, and the Office of the US Trade Representative. They will review the progress of bilateral relations in light of Bangladesh's new political landscape. Donald Lu is expected to depart Dhaka on Monday, September 16.
