Death Toll in July Revolution Reaches 1,423, Over 22,000 Injured

The death toll from the July Revolution stands at 1,423, according to Tarikul Islam, Member Secretary of the Central Health Sub-Committee and Central Coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement. He announced this in a video statement on Facebook on Friday night, September 20, around 11:30 PM.

Tarikul Islam mentioned that while the death toll is 1,423, the number may fluctuate. He stated that a complete list will be compiled soon.

Regarding the injured, he said that managing the injured is a difficult task due to the large number involved. So far, they have a list of 22,000 injured individuals, though this number may change.

He further added that 587 people have been left permanently disabled or have lost limbs as a result of the movement. Additionally, 685 people have partially or completely lost their vision due to gunshot wounds, including 92 individuals who were shot in both eyes or have completely lost vision in both eyes.

In the meantime, each family of the martyrs will receive a one-time compensation of 500,000 BDT, and each injured person will initially receive up to 100,000 BDT. According to previous decisions, the Ministry of Health will cover the medical expenses of the injured. This decision was made during the first executive meeting of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation on Wednesday, September 18.

The "July Martyrs Memorial Foundation" began its emergency financial assistance program this week. Nahid Islam, Adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, stated that 1 billion BDT has already been donated to the foundation from the Chief Adviser's Relief and Welfare Fund.
