Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) has suspended vessel movement in the coastal areas, citing inclement weather.

This information was revealed through a press release on Thursday (October 3) morning.

It is said that hostile weather is prevailing in coastal areas. Local cautionary signal number 3 has been raised at all seaports. Due to the heavy rolling of the river in the coastal area, the waterway will be closed until further notice for the safety of people and property.

Ehteshamul Parvez, public relations officer of BIWTA, confirmed the suspension on Thursday. All vessels operating on routes from Dhaka to Hatia, Betua, Khepupara, Charmontaj, Rangabali, and Monpura have been ordered to halt operations until further notice, he said.

BIWTA said that the decision was made due to rough conditions in rivers in the coastal regions, which pose serious risks to vessel navigation.
