Malaysia PM Anwar Ibrahim Arrives Today
Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim arrives in Dhaka today for an official visit, ushering in the hope of boosting trade and investment, improving migration system, and addressing the Rohingya crisis. He arrives with a delegation of 58 members.
It would be the first high-level visit by a head of government of any foreign country since the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus assumed office after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5.
PM Ibrahim to reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 2:30 pm if all goes well. He will be scheduled to receive a guard of honor.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Malaysian Prime Minister will arrive in Dhaka with a large delegation of 58 members after noon on Friday. He will hold a bilateral meeting with the Chief Advisor of the interim government, followed by a joint press conference between the two leaders.
Additionally, Anwar Ibrahim will pay a courtesy call on Bangladesh's President, Mohammad Shahabuddin. He will depart from Dhaka later in the afternoon.
Foreign Ministry sources said that after the formalities at the airport, the Prime Minister of Malaysia will be taken to Hotel Intercontinental with a formal motorcade. There will have a one-to-one meeting between chief adviser Dr Yunus and Malaysian PM Ibrahim.
Later, the two leaders will discuss this at the bilateral level. A wide range of issues of mutual interest are expected to dominate there including economic cooperation, political relations, trade and investment, labor migration, education, technology, infrastructure development, and defense cooperation.
Earlier, the then Prime Minister of Malaysia Najib Razak visited Dhaka in November 2013 last on an official visit. After almost 11 years, this is going to be the visit of a Malaysian Prime Minister to Bangladesh.
