Lightning Kills 297 in Eight Months

The number of casualties due to lightning is increasing day by day in Bangladesh. In eight months of this year, 297 people have died due to lightning across the country. 242 of them are men. Among these, the highest number of people died in May, according to the "Save the Society and Thunderstorm Awareness Forum." This information was released at the organization's office on the capital's Topkhana Road on Saturday (October 5).

According to the organization, from last February to September 30, 297 people died due to lightning across the country. 73 people were injured. Among the dead, there are 11 children, and 55 women. 6 of the women are teenagers. Of the total deaths, 242 were men. There are 17 juveniles among males.

According to the organization, one died by lightning in February. 9 people died in March. Among them 8 men and one woman. 6 people were injured in March. 6 of them are men. 31 people died in April. Among them are 20 men, 11 women, one child, and two teenage girls. A man was injured in April.

96 people died in May. Among them 79 men, 17 women, 2 children, 2 teenagers, and one girl. 28 people were injured in May. Among them 23 men and 5 women. 77 people died in June. Among them 61 men, 16 women, 5 children, and 7 teenagers among men. 14 people were injured this month. Among them 12 men and 2 women.

A total of 19 people died in July. Among them 1 female and 18 males. 10 people were injured. Among them, there is one female and 9 males.

A total of 17 people were killed by lightning in August. Among them three women and 14 men. Among them 1 child, 1 teenager and 1 teenager. In addition, two men were injured this month.

A total of 47 people died in lightning strikes in September. Among them, 41 are men and 6 are women. There are 2 children between the woman and the man. There are 4 juveniles among males and 2 juveniles among females. 12 people were injured this month. Among them, there are 10 males and 2 females.

How many were killed in which district?
This year the maximum number of 13 people died in Brahmanbaria. Besides, 12 died in Feni, 10 in Cox's Bazar, 13 in Jaipurhat, 13 in Habiganj and 10 in Gaibandha. Most cases of death due to lightning occurred during the harvesting of paddy, cutting of grass, bringing cattle, and various agricultural activities.

In eight months, 152 farmers died due to lightning during agricultural work. Among them, 18 people died just while bringing cows. Besides, 52 fishermen died while fishing. 11 people died while picking mangoes, 15 while traveling on empty roads, 27 while at home, 3 while lifting stones, 14 while playing in the courtyard of the house, and one while in the car.
