The Ministry of Education published an admission policy for government and non-government schools at the secondary, lower, and primary levels yesterday (Monday, October 28).

In the 2025 academic year, students will be selected and admitted through a digital lottery system from classes 1 to 9 in all public and private secondary schools in the country.

Students interested in admission can apply online from November 12. This process will continue till November 30.

The lottery will take place in December, according to the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education.

This information was revealed in a circular signed by the director of Secondary and Higher Education on Monday (October 28).

According to sources from the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, the time for accepting applications was decided at a meeting held on October 23. Applications will be accepted till November 30. After that, the admission lottery will be held in December.

The Secondary and Higher Education Division issued the policy, specifying that students may be admitted to entry-level classes till ninth grade, depending on seat availability, with a maximum of 55 students allowed per section.

Meanwhile, some 40 percent of seats in non-government schools within Dhaka metropolitan areas will be reserved for students residing in respective localities, while five percent of seats will be allocated under the freedom fighter quota.

According to the information of the meeting, the admission process will start on December 17 after the end of the digital lottery. Which will continue till December 21.

The admission of the first waiting list will start from 22 December to 24 December and admission of the second waiting list will continue from December 26 to December 30.

According to the National Education Policy 2010, children aged 6 and older are eligible for admission.

However, students must be between 5 and 7 years old as of January 1 and December 31 of the entry year, and their ages must be verified through an attested copy of their birth certificate, submitted with the admission application.

For special students, the age requirement may be relaxed for up to five years, according to the policy.

The digital lottery process for admission will be conducted centrally by the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education. The Secondary and Higher Education Division will set the digital lottery's date, time, and application fees.

Students were selected through a lottery for admission to class 1 only until 2020. Due to the coronavirus, the process of admission started through the lottery in all classes in 2021.
