Former minister, member of the Awami League Advisory Council, and coordinator of the central 14-party alliance, Amir Hossain Amu, has been arrested by the police. On Wednesday, November 6, Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) Police arrested him from Dhanmondi in the capital.

The matter was confirmed by Additional Commissioner (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Rezaul Karim Mallik.

He stated that Amir Hossain Amu is accused in several murder cases. He will be presented to the court and a remand request will be made after showing him as arrested in one of the cases.

Previously, on the night of September 29, students surrounded a building in Bashundhara in the capital, suspecting that Amir Hossain Amu was hiding there. After about four hours of surrounding the building without finding him, the protesters engaged in vandalism.

Amir Hossain Amu was elected as a Presidium member of the central committee of the Bangladesh Awami League in 1992. In 2013, he was given the responsibility of the Ministry of Land and the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. Later, in 2014, he became the Minister of Industries.

It should be noted that after Sheikh Hasina fled amid student and public protests and resigned on August 5, many ministers, MPs, and leaders from various levels of the Awami League went into hiding. While some managed to leave the country, many have been arrested.

After Sheikh Hasina fled, former Law Minister Anisul Haque and former Prime Minister’s Advisor on Private Industries and Investment, Salman F. Rahman, were arrested on August 13.

Following this, former Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku, State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, former Water Resources Minister Ramesh Chandra Sen, Major General (Retd.) Ziaul Ahsan, former Social Welfare Minister Dipu Moni, former Cox’s Bazar MP Abdur Rahman Bodi, Workers Party President Rashed Khan Menon (a partner of the 14-party alliance), former Chief Whip of the National Parliament ASM Feroz, former MP Sadek Khan, former Minister Golam Dastagir Gazi, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JSD) President and former Information Minister Hasanul Haq Inu, former MP Tipu Munshi, Haji Selim, former Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police Asaduzzaman Mia, and many others have been arrested.
