UK Looks to Dr. Yunus’s Vision for Bangladesh: Catherine West
Catherine West, the UK's Minister of State for the Indo-Pacific, remarked that the United Kingdom is looking to Professor Yunus's vision as Bangladesh navigates its democratic future.
Speaking on Sunday (November 17) after a meeting with Foreign Affairs Adviser Md. Touhid Hossain at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, West emphasized the UK's intent to support Bangladesh's people based on the assistance the interim government seeks during this transition.
On political reconciliation, West expressed hope that Professor Yunus would articulate his vision for Bangladesh's democratic future, which the UK looks forward to seeing unfold.
When asked about BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman’s potential return to Bangladesh, she said no specific issues were discussed but reiterated the UK's willingness to support the government during this critical period.
West noted that this is her second visit to Bangladesh, her first in 11 years, and she is pleased to return as the Indo-Pacific Minister. She acknowledged the interim government's commitment to restoring peace and order, ensuring accountability, and advancing national reconciliation, assuring the UK's full support in these efforts.
The UK welcomes the interim government’s determination to build a better democratic future for Bangladesh's people. Highlighting the strong friendship between the two nations, West expressed a desire to deepen ties and discussed collaboration in areas such as economy, trade, security, migration, and climate change.
