Anti-Discrimination Student Movement: 18-Member Committee Formed

The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has announced an 18-member central executive committee. Additionally, the convenor, member secretary, chief organizer, and spokesperson of the movement will automatically hold positions in this committee. The announcement was made on Thursday night, November 21, through a press release sent to the media by the movement.

According to the statement, the movement dissolved its coordination team on October 22 and formed a four-member convening committee. Hasnat Abdullah was appointed as convenor, and Arif Sohel as member secretary. Abdul Hannan Masud was named chief organizer, and Umama Fatema as the spokesperson. This committee had been managing the organization’s activities until now.

Background of the Movement:
The Anti-Discrimination Student Movement initiated its campaign on July 1, demanding reforms to the government job quota system. On July 8, they formed a 65-member coordination team to lead the movement, which was later expanded to 158 members on August 3.

The quota reform movement eventually escalated into a mass uprising. On August 5, this uprising by students and citizens brought an end to the Awami League's 16-year-long rule.
