SC Denies Bail to Hallmark Chairman Jasmine
The Supreme Court's Appellate Division has not granted bail to Hallmark Group Chairman Jasmine Islam in a corruption case. The order states that her bail application will come up for a hearing after three months. The ACC's investigation report has been asked to be submitted to the court during this time.
On Thursday (November 28), the 5-judge Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refaat Ahmed gave the order.
Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajal heard the case on Jasmine's behalf in the court. Advocate Asif Hasan appeared for the ACC.
Earlier, in 2022, the High Court had denied bail to Jasmine Islam in this case. An appeal was filed in the Appellate Division against this order.
The High Court Division granted her bail by granting a rule on March 10, 2019, in the case of embezzlement of Tk 85 crore 87 lakh 33 thousand 616 from Janata Bank against a fake LC. The ACC appealed to the Appellate Division against this. On June 16 of the same year, the Appellate Division canceled her bail and ordered her to surrender within four weeks.
Jasmine Islam then surrendered. Later, when she applied for bail in the High Court, the court issued a rule.
