Petition Filed to Ban Broadcast of Sheikh Hasina's Speeches
The prosecution has filed a petition in the International Crimes Tribunal seeking a ban on the dissemination of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's alleged hateful remarks through media and social media platforms.
The hearing on the petition is scheduled for Thursday, December 5, at 12:00 PM before a tribunal led by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder.
According to the prosecution, her statements constitute "hate speech," prompting the plea to halt their spread.
After fleeing the country on August 5 in the wake of a student and public uprising, Sheikh Hasina has been residing in India. While there, she has reportedly made derogatory comments about the interim government on social media and other platforms, addressing various issues.
On November 18, the tribunal ordered the completion of investigations within one month into two cases filed against Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, and 46 others for alleged crimes against humanity during the July-August genocide. The investigation report is to be submitted by December 17. Additionally, 13 individuals, including Anisul Haque, have been shown arrested in the tribunal's cases and ordered to remain in custody.
The three-member tribunal, chaired by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Majumder, issued the directives. Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam represented the prosecution during the hearing.
