Media freedom is the top priority of this government, remarked Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary, Shafiqul Alam. He made these comments on Thursday (December 5) at a Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) investigative journalism award ceremony during a discussion titled “Media in a New Bangladesh.”

Speakers at the event called on local media to step forward and counter false narratives propagated by the Indian media.

The Press Secretary highlighted the government’s full support for establishing an independent media.

Criticizing the previous Awami League government, he stated that they had enacted social media laws to impose control and forced media outlets to publish news aligning with their interests. He added that the future of independent journalism depends on the goodwill of political parties.
