Lawyer Saiful Murder: 2 Prime Suspect Put on Remand
Two key accused in the murder of Advocate Saiful Islam Alif at the Chattogram court premises have been remanded by the court.
Among them, the main accused Chandan Das has been placed on a 7-day remand, while another accused, Ripon Das, has been remanded for 5 days.
On Friday (December 6), Chattogram Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam issued the order.
They were produced before the court today amid tight security measures.
Assistant Public Prosecutor (APP) Md. Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury said that the two accused in the Saiful murder case were presented in court on Friday. At that time, the investigation officer applied for a 10-day remand for each of them for interrogation. Around 50 lawyers, led by Chattogram District Bar Association President Mohammad Nazim Uddin, participated in the hearing. Following the hearing, the court granted a 7-day remand for Chandan and a 5-day remand for Ripon.
Earlier, late Wednesday night, Chandan, the main accused in the Saiful murder case, was arrested in Bhairab, Kishoreganj. The next night, Thursday, he was handed over to Kotwali Police Station. On the same evening, Ripon Das, another accused identified from the murder's video footage, was arrested in Anwara, Chattogram.
