Daughters of July Revolution Hailed as Heroines of Change: Yunus
Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Chief Advisor, has addressed the women who participated in the July-August mass uprising as the heroines of history’s transformation.
According to a report by Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), on Tuesday (December 10), Dr. Yunus made these remarks at a women’s assembly titled “Daughters of July: We Will Not Let You Be Forgotten” held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital. The event highlighted the achievements and contributions of the daughters of the July Revolution.
Addressing the daughters of the July Revolution, Dr. Yunus said, “What you have achieved for Bangladesh is a historic event. The heroines of this historic moment have done something unparalleled in the world. Many revolutions have occurred globally, but this one is entirely different. No one inspired you; you participated spontaneously. This revolution is entirely your own creation.”
Referring to the changes post-August 5, Dr. Yunus stated, “Bangladeshi women—students from schools, colleges, and universities, professionals, and homemakers—joined the revolution from wherever they could. They stepped forward equally and fundamentally changed the scenario.”
Dr. Yunus further remarked, “Through this mass uprising, Bangladeshi women demonstrated a power that no other country’s women have yet shown. You are far ahead, and that is a significant fortune. You seized an opportunity and proved that you possess strength and can manifest it.”
The Chief Advisor urged them to continue playing an active role until the dream of building a new Bangladesh is fulfilled. “The role you have taken in transforming the old Bangladesh into a new one must be completed. It cannot be left solely to the government. You must stay engaged and establish it. The dream of a new Bangladesh that resides in your hearts, in the hearts of all Bangladeshis, must be realized.”
He added, “Through the July-August revolution, you have proven that your generation is entirely different. You are immensely powerful individuals. This strength has not diminished, and you will continue to create exemplary histories for the world. You have the potential for it.”
Dr. Yunus advised the new generation of women not to stray down the wrong path. “If you can harness the potential within you correctly, you can build an entirely new Bangladesh. Not just Bangladesh, but you can involve yourselves in the monumental task of building a new world.”
Honoring those who lost their lives or were injured during the mass uprising, Dr. Yunus stated, “We have not forgotten you who sacrificed your lives or were injured. This new Bangladesh we will build—this is our vow.”
The event, organized by the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs and the Ministry of Social Welfare, saw the participation of students from various colleges, universities, and educational institutions who had joined the anti-discrimination students movement in July. Working women were also present.
During the event, Dr. Yunus interacted with the revolutionary daughters of the tumultuous July-August period. Listening attentively, he heard their aspirations, dreams, and demands as they shared their thoughts with enthusiasm and hope.
