The Ministry of Public Administration will provide financial benefits alongside their new ranks to 764 former officials, who were deprived of promotion in the last 15 years. The Interim Government's Grievance Resolution Committee had recommended their 'Retrospective' promotions, ranging from Deputy Secretary to Secretary.

The Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration shared this information in a press conference on Sunday (December 15).

Referring to the recommendations of the Grievance Resolution Committee and the government's policy decision, he said that there is a minimum process in government service, which requires guidance from higher authorities. However, the process is expected to be concluded shortly. This is not exactly a promotion; it is about restoring social status. A government order will be issued to provide them with financial benefits and ranks. Based on this, they will receive the corresponding payments. The government is in agreement on the matter, and it is just a matter of time.

Further explaining, he said that placing someone in a post is one thing, and their rank is another. This is about granting dignity with a government order. The Accountant General's Office will calculate the financial benefits according to its scientific procedures. These benefits will also apply to pensions.

Previously, on December 10, a review committee for retired officials who were deprived of promotion submitted their report to Chief Advisor Dr Muhammad Yunus. The Ministry of Public Administration formed a five-member committee, headed by former Finance Secretary and former Alternate Executive Director of the World Bank, Zakir Ahmed Khan, on September 16. This committee was tasked with reviewing the cases of officials who were deprived of promotion in various ways between 2009 and August 4, 2024, during the tenure of the Awami League government, and recommending a course of action.
