Mirza Fakhrul Falls Ill While Paying Tribute, Taken to CMH
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir fell ill and collapsed while paying tribute at the National Martyrs' Memorial in Savar, Dhaka, on the occasion of Victory Day.
On Monday (December 16), after 10 AM, Mirza Fakhrul, accompanied by senior party leaders, arrived at the memorial to pay homage on behalf of the BNP. Amidst the heavy crowd, he suddenly fell to the ground due to illness. Party members quickly transported him to a hospital by car.
Earlier in the day, at dawn, President Md. Shahabuddin led the nation in honoring the country's heroic martyrs. A smart contingent from the three armed forces presented a guard of honor, while the somber notes of the bugle created a mournful atmosphere. The President stood in silence for a moment to pay respects to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
Shortly afterward, Chief Advisor Dr. Muhammad Yunus laid wreaths at the memorial, accompanied by East Timor’s freedom fighter and President José Ramos-Horta. Together, they stood silently in tribute to the brave souls of Bangladesh’s Liberation War.
After the official state ceremonies, the memorial was opened to the public, drawing crowds eager to pay their respects to the nation’s finest.
Earlier in the morning, the Victory Day celebrations began with a 31-gun salute at the National Parade Ground, marking the nation’s tribute to the valiant martyrs of the Liberation War.
