The intensity of winter is increasing across the country. Dark clouds have gathered in the sky of Dhaka amid winter. Meanwhile, a clear low-pressure area located in the sea is prevailing in the southwest Bay of Bengal and adjacent areas.

The latest forecast given by the Meteorological Department has mentioned the possibility of rain in seven divisions of the country including Dhaka today.

This information was given in a press release from the Meteorological Department on Friday (December 20) evening.

According to the notification, light to moderate rain is likely at a few places over Khulna, Barishal and Dhaka divisions and one or two places over Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Sylhet and Chattogram divisions commencing at 9 am on Saturday.

Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky elsewhere over the country.

Light to moderate fog may occur at places all over the country from midnight till morning.

Today, Saturday (December 21), the day and night temperatures may decrease slightly. On the following day, Sunday (December 22), the day temperature is expected to remain almost unchanged, while the night temperature may decrease slightly.

On Monday (December 23), the day temperature is likely to remain nearly unchanged. In the extended 5-day weather forecast, it has been mentioned that night temperature may decrease further.

The Meteorological Department has stated that the low-pressure may continue to move further north-northeastward. Currently, the maximum sustained wind speed within 44 kilometres of the centre of the low-pressure area is 40 kilometres per hour, which may increase to 50 kilometres per hour in gusts or squalls. Additionally, the sea is rough near the centre of the low-pressure area.

In this situation, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra seaports have been asked to hoist distant cautionary signal number 1. At the same time, all fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay of Bengal and deep-sea areas have been asked to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.

The depression was centred at 6:00 am Saturday about 1265 km southwest of Chattogram port, 1220 km southwest of Cox's Bazar, 1140 km southwest of Mongla port and 1140 km southwest of Payra port, said a Met office bulletin.
