Police Still Taking Bribes: Sarjis Alam
Sarjis Alam, a coordinator of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, General Secretary of the July Martyrs Memorial Foundation, and chief organizer of the Jatiyo Nagorik Committee, has alleged that many police personnel are still blatantly accepting bribes.
In a verified Facebook post on Saturday (December 28), Sarjis Alam made this claim.
He stated, “Hundreds of police officers are still taking money at the stations. How can you bring about reforms without punishing those whose blood is tainted with corruption?”
He added, with a touch of irony, “Just by transferring them? Ridiculous…”
As of the time of writing, the post had garnered over 12,500 comments from readers.
One user, Raihan Ahmed Tamim, wrote, “It’s the responsibility of the Home Affairs Advisor to create pressure and reform them into proper human beings. But our Home Advisor isn’t strong; he’s indecisive. How will change come, and through whose leadership?”
Adilur Rahman Mohsin commented, “Their corruption continues almost everywhere. Unable to engage in the same level of corruption as before, they are now neglecting their duties.”
Abdul Matin remarked, “There’s no one to oversee this.”
Another user, AB Mamun, suggested, “Those directly involved in corruption shouldn’t just be transferred; they should be permanently dismissed.”
